A search of the United States Patent and Trademark office's records including marks that have been registered and are currently pending registration. We broaden the scope to include searches for the terms that may be considered confusingly similar to the name that you intend to use.

Typically this is a first place to start to determine if your name is available for trademark and to gauge the strength of it.

If there are no direct hits and no other names that are similar, one may want to proceed to the next step of doing the state level search in the state that you plan to do business in. If there are ambiguities in terms of using the name, we will refer you to a qualified trademark attorney.
